Nacho Méndez has been chosen by the fans as Sporting’s best player last September and for this reason he received in Mareo the Mahou Five Star Trophy that distinguishes him as such. The player from Luanda, who was out for ten months last season, took advantage of the press conference to thank the fans for the award and to highlight the work of the current red and white coach, Miguel Ángel Ramírez. “It’s a luxury for us to have him”, said the midfielder who considers that “the moment I’m going through is partly thanks to him”.
This is how Nacho Méndez spoke about Ramírez: “I don’t want to get involved with other coaches. It would be unfair to people who have given me confidence. I remember José Alberto, Paco Herrera himself who gave me the opportunity to make my debut, Gallego, Abelardo, who took me in pre-season. But Miguel Ángel is very good. It’s a luxury for us to have him. I’m trying to repay that confidence with minutes”.
For Nacho Méndez, the level he is offering every time he plays, he doesn’t know if it’s the best since he’s been in the first team, but “it’s probably the most continuous I’ve had over time”. And that’s how the player from Luanco, who is experiencing physical problems this week, wants to continue, although he hopes to be fit enough to be called up to face Albacete next Sunday.
