Miguel Ángel Ramírez is back to work. The Spanish coach will end his spell without a team to take charge of Malmö’s project in Sweden. It will be the seventh team he manages since starting his career as a head coach, and he arrives in the Nordic country to lead the club with the most titles in the history of the Allsvenskan (Sweden’s top division, with 24 league championships).
Ramírez’s career as a head coach began in Ecuador, where he won the 2019 Copa Sudamericana with Independiente del Valle. The Canary Islander left an excellent impression in the South American country, as he played a key role in planting the seeds that have helped transform the club into one of the most successful on the continent.
After his spell at Internacional in Brazil and later at Charlotte in the United States, MAR returned to Spain — where he had previously coached only at youth level — to take charge of Sporting Gijón in the Segunda División. Despite helping the Asturian club dream of promotion and reaching the playoffs against Espanyol, his tenure ended after 66 matches, and he then moved to Qatar for a brief spell at Al-Wakrah.

His next adventure, again in Spain and in the Segunda División, took him to Aragón to manage Real Zaragoza, another historic club in the second tier aiming to return to the top flight of Spanish football.
