Miguel Ángel Ramírez gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo following his recent appointment as head coach of Malmö FF, a Swedish club with a strong footballing tradition. At 41 years of age, the Canary Islands coach brings extensive international experience after managing teams in Greece, Qatar, Ecuador, Brazil, the United States, and Spain, including spells at Sporting de Gijón and Real Zaragoza.
Ramírez explained how his arrival at Malmö came about through a lengthy selection process that began several months earlier and was finalized in December after a series of conversations. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work in a different league and with a squad he considers highly talented, particularly due to the club’s strong commitment to developing young players from its academy.
During the interview, the coach shared his views on the game, emphasizing that there are no fixed tactical systems in modern football, but rather dynamic structures that require different heights, width, and depth depending on each phase of play. He highlighted the importance of adapting to the squad and prioritizing aspects such as defensive organization in order to compete at the highest level.
He also reflected on his evolution as a coach, from his successful period at Independiente del Valle—where he achieved significant success by developing young talent—to his current approach, which seeks a better balance between possession and defensive solidity. In addition, he stated that his objective at Malmö is to compete for titles and sporting success, in line with the club’s ambitions.
Finally, Ramírez shared his perspective on his professional future, noting that enjoying football and experiencing new sporting cultures remains his main motivation, without feeling any immediate urgency to return to coaching in Spain.
